Dr. Rangarajan obtained his honors degree from Madras. Next he did his Ph.D in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Embarking on a career in teaching, he taught in the US Institutions of Learning - Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, University of Pennsylvania and the Graduate School of Business Administration, New York University.
Dr. Rangarajan is a leading economist of the country who has played a key role as an academic and a policy maker and is a well-deserved recipient of the prestigious PADMA VIBHUSHAN in 2002.
He became Governor, Reserve Bank of India between in 1992 and Governor Andhra Pradesh in 1997 followed by Chairmanship of Twelfth Finance Commission in January, 2003. he has submitted his report of 12th Finance Commission to the Government.
